Transfer of Sticker & Claiming Balance
If the applicant(s) obtain a new passport, the MM2H visa must be transferred to the new passport, as the visa in the old passport will no longer be valid—this process is referred to as a "Transfer of Sticker." If the applicant(s) have not utilised the full duration of their visa, they can apply for a new passport and transfer the remaining validity of the visa to the new passport—this is known as an extension (or "Claim Balance"). We recommend applying for the extension/claim balance at least 3 months before the MM2H visa expires and transferring the sticker as soon as the applicant(s) receive their new passport, particularly if they are in Malaysia.
If the MM2H visa has expired or has not been transferred to the new passport, the applicant(s) will be regarded as tourists in Malaysia.
All applicants, including their dependents, are required to be physically present in Malaysia to complete the transfer of sticker and extension process.
Required Documents for Transfer of Sticker & Extension/Claiming Balance
- Authorisation Letter from the principal – This must be signed by the principal applicant.
- Original and copy of the Conditional Approval Letter.
- Original old passport of the applicant(s) – The old passport must be invalidated (one corner of the cover trimmed).
- In case of a lost old passport, a police report must be lodged in Malaysia and submitted to the MM2H Office.
- Original current passport – Must include the current MM2H visa and the latest entry stamp. If the applicant(s) has renewed their passport after receiving the new Approval Letter but before the endorsement, they must bring the following documents:
- New passport:
- If the new passport was renewed through the embassy in Malaysia, please provide the courier envelope or any supporting documentation from the embassy, such as the receipt or email confirmation related to the passport renewal.
- For passports renewed outside of Malaysia, the applicant must enter Malaysia manually and ensure that the new passport is stamped with the Malaysia Entry Stamp. Avoid using Fastlane/E-Gate/MM2H Lane/Special Lane, and do not present the old passport unless specifically requested.
- Old passport containing the previous MM2H visa – This must be invalidated by trimming one corner of the passport cover.
- New passport:
- If the applicant(s) is a dependent, a copy of the principal’s current passport, including the personal information page and the MM2H visa page, is required.
- IMM.12 form for each applicant.
- IMM.55 form for each applicant.
- If the MM2H was not initially processed through Alter Domus, the following additional documents are required: a) Personal Bond for each applicant – We will obtain this for you free of charge. b) Release Letter if the previous agent/sponsor is still active.
Note: Due to concerns about impersonation fraud, when changing agents/sponsors, a Release Letter from the original agent/sponsor is required to release them from any responsibility for the applicant. Applicants can request this letter themselves or Alter Domus can assist with the request. The previous agent/sponsor may charge a fee (RM300 to RM1,500) for issuing the Release Letter as compensation for the loss of potential business. - An Original Statutory Declaration as “single”, “unmarried” and “unemployed in Malaysia” must be made through a Commissioner for Oaths in Malaysia – This applies to dependents aged 21 and above.
Note: Children under the MM2H dependent pass can renew only up to 34 years old, based on their birth date or depending on the validity of the new passport. - Two passport-sized photographs with a blue background – If the photo has a different background colour, you can send it to us, or we can take the photo at our office for an additional charge.
All documents must be submitted to us at least 2 days prior to our visit to the MM2H Centre.
The processing time for the extension/claim balance and transfer of sticker at the MM2H Office typically takes 1 working day, with the passport(s) returned to the applicant(s) the following day. However, if there are any system issues at the MM2H Office on the day, the processing time may be delayed by 1 or 2 working days (or longer), which may affect when we can return the passport(s).
